These are the things I think about

A poem I wrote my mother for Mother’s day (shhh… she hasn’t seen it yet).

A mother covers,                                                                                                                A mother protects.                                                                                                             A mother discovers,                                                                                                           A mother respects.

A mother is warm,                                                                                                              A mother sustains.                                                                                                          She can calm a storm,                                                                                                    And kiss away pains.

A mother is fearless                                                                                                          When protecting her own.                                                                                               Though never tearless,                                                                                                       With mercy unknown.

No words can explain,                                                                                                      Nor actions reveal,                                                                                                            The sadness you’ve slain,                                                                                                  And the love that I feel.

Today is my mother’s birthday. I decided to write her a poem.

Mother

With delicate hands you

Wash,

Clean,

Prepare.

Ensuring everything fits

And knows its place.

Unpaid, undiscouraged,

And often unappreciated.

With smiles and love

To comfort glares and dirty dishes.

It is only when we stop

To notice your effect in our lives,

That we see

The full height

Of your devoted life.

Most loved.

Magnificent.
